Toast of the town
08/07/2008 No doubt about it. Dingdong Dantes is among the current crop of favorites for product endorsements and TV projects, but he has a very big difference. Unlike most of his batchmates, Dingdong always gets the red carpet treatment, the kind of product launches that truly generate wider media mileage and the kind of events that go for the record. Some weeks back, he and Marian Rivera were among the three big reasons cited by a US-based Pinoy producer on why the Eat Bulaga show in America was a big success, contrary to a controversial report that it was a flop. In fact, in several blogs and sites, photos of the two doing their thing (singing and dancing) in the show were being feasted on like a sumptous meal. Then, a week back, Dingdong again made headlines for the just concluded Blackout Bench event at the Araneta Coliseum. He, according to reports, was the reason why the show was a huge success and why the throng of fans and supporters who trooped to the venue got so excited, literally carried away especially when he took off his pants on stage. Then, just last Sunday, he was launched as the newest endorser of the Belo Medical Group. Filled with celebrities and members of the media, the event was a hit indeed. The NBC Tent proved ideal for the theme of James Bond’s secret mission. Belo did this only for Dingdong Dantes, who truly deserves the red carpet and the big paparazzi event. The fact is it was Dingdong’s idea to sort of “use the Bond image” as his new campaign for Belo. “I’m simply flattered and happy that they liked my idea, and took the concept from there. Kaya ganito ang naging resulta — maganda at sobrang nakakataba ng puso,” said Dingdong. For our nagging question about his VIP image among brand and product owners, he said, “Hindi naman siguro. Natataon lang na may maganda rin silang idea on how to launch at natataon din sigurong ako ang natatapat as endorser. Like now, nagkataon ding birthday ko, kaya hayun, parang nag-complement sa event ang lahat.” What about the issue about his co-endorsers’ plans to leave the product since it appears to them that he is indeed the current VIP and favorite among them, with those kinds of exciting launches being accorded to him? “Naku, wala namang ganyan. I am simply doing my part and sharing what I have. I don’t think that will be the reason in case or if ever there will be co-endorsers who plan to leave the company. Sa totoo lang sobra nga akong natutuwa dahil sa mga ganitong (product endorsements) pagkakataon lang kami nabibigyan ng chance to work together, to have fun together and to be together in an event na puwede namang walang intrigahan. Huwag namang ganyan,” he sighed. Dingdong gained national prominence when he was paired with Marian Rivera in Marimar, and now, with Dyesebel, his popularity even doubles. The same holds true with Marian, who is certainly GMA 7’s reigning primetime queen today. For all these, Dingdong simply quipped, “Disiplina lang. Patience and hardship. I am 28 now (he celebrated last Aug. 2) and even though I have been in showbiz for more than a decade, ngayon ko lang talaga masasabing isa nga akong ganap na artist, na maraming puwedeng gawin at puwedeng maimpluwensyahan through my works.” The two of them will have a dance concert at the Araneta Coliseum on Aug. 27. It is going to be their thank-you offering to their countless fans and adoring supporters. This will be for free, and since they are known as natural dancers, expect a showcase of real dance and moves that truly made them the most popular, and yes, as today’s most bankable love team in Philippine television! qqq Meanwhile, here’s inviting our friends and those who want to have a unique dinner on Aug. 8, tomorrow, to visit the Mall of China, located at Bradco Avenue, Aseana Business Park, Bay Area, Parañaque City. It’s very near the Macapagal Avenue and Mall of Asia. This is where one can enjoy a quiet and cool atmosphere while having a Chinese lauriat dinner for only P199 per person. And since the mall wants to bring in China at your convenience, expect real and authentic Chinese food to be served. Not only that, there will be a live coverage of the Beijing Olympics opening ceremonies on giant monitors scattered all over the mall. The lauriat will be from Friday to Sunday (Aug. 8 to 10) only, so better check the place out. You will for sure enjoy the 16 certified food havens, called the Hawkers Food Paradise. This is street food a la Hong Kong, China, Singapore and Bangkok, in which customers participate in the cooking of their food and eating them there. The Mall of China also boasts of its night market, a two-story, fully air-conditioned building with 168 tenants that sell great items and affordable stuff. Both the Hawkers Food Paradise and the night market are open until midnight. To continually entertain shoppers and diners, there will be two bands playing starting 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., the Latino-Bossa Nova band and Cool Jazz band.
