Heavily armed men rob LPG station
10/13/2008 Some P680,000 in cash and valuables were taken by 15 unidentified men who robbed a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) station in Pasay City midnight last Saturday. Robbed were Island Gas refilling station located at 2933 Apelo Cruz St. and three taxi drivers who at that time were having their taxi LPG tanks refilled. The three cab drivers were identified as Elias Olores, 31, of DOTC Compound, Punzalan Street, Lower Bicutan, Taguig, Alejandro Tude, 42, of Purok 5, Sitio Imelda, Upper Bicutan, Taguig, and Joel Cartagena, 29, of Manoyo, Tipas, Taguig. The robbers made off with Olores’ earnings of P280, Tude’s P120 and Cartagena’s P3,600. According to Pasay City police chief Senior Supt. Marietto Valerio, some of the suspects were armed with high-powered firearms like M-16 rifles, .45 cal. pistols and wearing masks to conceal their identities. Initial investigation conducted by SPO1 Joel Landicho of the Station Investigation and Detective Management Section showed the robbers arrived on board a green Mitsubishi Adventure and a gray Toyota Revo. Once the robbers’ vehicles entered the compound, they immediately disarmed the two security guards identified as Michael Rivera and a certain Raz and declared a robbery. Police said the suspects used a sledgehammer in opening the vault. In a bid to make sure they were not followed, the men took the keys of the three taxicabs. Valeio said they are coordinating with neighboring police stations to check if the suspects had been linked to recent robberies in southern Metro Manila. Pat C. Santos Back to top
