30 big firms to offer jobs to graduating students

12/05/2008

Some of the biggest employers in the country’s premier region will offer thousands of jobs to graduating students and other jobseekers during a jobs and career fair to be held at the Far Eastern University (FEU) in Sampaloc, Manila today, Dec. 5, Labor Secretary Marianito Roque said yesterday.

According to Roque, 30 big companies in the National Capital Region (NCR) would participate and accept applicants, especially graduates in the jobs fair dubbed JOBSolutely DoLE Jobs and Career Fair.

Roque added many of the participating firms are continuously hiring, an indication the economy continues to generate employment despite the financial crisis.

The firms with thousands of vacancies are the NCO Group, eTelecare, HSBC Global Resourcing, Trendworks (Skechers), People Support, Teleperformance, Concentrix, VXI Global Solutions, McDonalds, SM Dept. Store, Megaworld Corp., Gerry’s Grill, Sterling Paper Group of Companies, Giordano Phils., Top Ideas, KFC/Mister Donut, Telus, Axis Global Technologies, Sun Cellular, Aboitiz Transport Systems Inc., Toyota Shaw Ortigas, Eastern Telecom, Abenson Inc., Nestle Inc., St. Luke’s Medical Center, PLDT, Teledevelopment, John Clements and Convergys.

The jobs and career fair would be conducted in celebration of the DoLE’s 75th anniversary on Dec. 8, noting that the event underscores the Department’s relentless effort to help Filipino workers find employment since its foundation in 1933.

The DoLE remains undaunted in its mission to promote and facilitate the employment of workers, Roque said as he cited FEU, JobsStreet.com, Filipiniana.net, and the University Belt consortium which are collaborating with the DoLE in the conduct of the Dec. 5 jobs fair.

The University Belt consortium consists of 30 universities and colleges in Sampaloc and nearby areas.

The DoLE chief said the fair would be held at FEU Open Grounds from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

He advised applicants to bring ID photos and copies of their resumes and credentials, saying they can also register for pre-employment requirements with the National Bureau of Investigation, National Statistics Office, Social Security System and Bureau of Internal Revenue which would also participate in the event to provide necessary services.
