Malabon cops intensify campaign vs erring drivers

01/06/2009

The Malabon City Police Station (MCPS) announced yesterday that it will crack down hard on erring drivers who keep violating road and traffic rules.

MCPS commander Senior Supt. Roberto Castro said the crackdown is part of Malabon Mayor Canuto “Tito” Oreta’s ongoing “Oplan Disiplina,” which seeks to instill road and traffic and discipline on private and public-utility drivers alike.

Villanueva said this campaign targets drivers who park their vehicles in alleyways and streets, those who pick up passengers at “no loading and unloading” areas, and those who speed unnecessarily.

The MCPS chief said first offenders will be meted a fine depending on the gravity of their offense while repeat offenders will have their licenses confiscated.

He also added that the campaign will be permanent to keep drivers honest.

Villanueva also said commuters can immediately report to the nearest police precinct or operative, drivers who are discourteous to their passengers and who smoke while driving so that they can be charged accordingly.

The MCPS chief said the city’s Oplan Disiplina mainly aims to professionalize the driving profession and reduce the number of traffic violations and accidents. PNA
