‘JV’ denounces CIDG raid on tiangge vendors at Greenhills mall

05/01/2009

San Juan City Mayor Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito yesterday denounced the raid conducted by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) on tiangge vendors at the Greenhills Shopping Center last Monday.

Ejercito condemned the harsh manner by which the raid was carried out.

“The operation was apparently an overkill. The Tianggeros Association members of the shopping center came to me and cried foul over the abrasiveness of the CIDG operatives. Some of our uniformed men seem to be enjoying this habit-forming of overkill and torture during operations,” he said.

He called on PNP chief Director General Jesus Verzosa to direct his CIDG men with a refresher course in proper procedures in search and seizure operations.

“We don’t question the operation but the manner by which it was conducted. They were very harsh and arrogant. Ang sugatan at saktan ang mga tinderong walang laban ay dapat ba sa isang raiding operation lalo pa’t sila naman ay armado ng mga karapatang dokumento? Paano kaya kung wala, marahil masahol pa ang sugatan ang mahigit sa 10 katao,” he said.

“I think General Verzosa should look into re-training his men on investigation and proper procedures and knowledge in arrest, search and seizure operations. The lapses in Greenhills raid already spells a compelling reason for criminal investigators and operatives to update themselves with advance knowledge in carrying out proper raiding procedures. Don’t we think this a backlash to Verzosa’s leadership?” he added.

Ejercito also labeled the Greeenhills raid as an overkill. Jason Faustino
