‘Happy Smiles for Healthy Kids’
09/12/2009 Wholly Filipino-owned oral and dental care products manufacturer Lamoiyan Corp. signed recently a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Philippine Dental Association (PDA) for the launching of the "Happy Smiles for Healthy Kids" program during simple ceremonies held at the Bagong Ilog Elementary School in Pasig City. The program, developed and implemented jointly by the three leading organizations, symbolizes how a strong collaboration between the public and private sector can be effected for the benefit of our country’s public elementary school children’s dental hygiene concerns. The program is also an offshoot of the National Oral Health Survey conducted by the DepEd among Grade 1 and Grade 6 public elementary school students between 5 and 13 years old in order to assess accurately their oral health conditions. The survey showed the prevalence of dental caries, a disease characterized by the disintegration of tooth structure among grade-school students, which was particularly high in the six-year-old age group.
