Tree planting at Ipo Watershed
11/09/2009 Recent typhoons did not deter personnel of Manila Water’s Balara Business Area to plant trees in the denuded Ipo Watershed Area in Bulacan. The spate of typhoons that hit the country in recent months caused floodings in the metropolis and various provinces. The floods, caused by heavy rains, were further aggravated by the continued run-off from previously forested areas like Ipo, that is now heavily deforested. With this in mind, Balara Area business manager Selwyn Cabaluna led his team along with volunteers from the company’s Water Supply Department to plant 500 seedlings of the hardwood variety such as narra to start restoring forest growth in the area. Photo shows the volunteers after their tree-planting activity.
