Erap tells Manila traffic enforcers: Be courteous

Manila Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada urges officials and members of the Manila Traffic Parking Bureau (MPTB) to be courteous in dealing with errant motorists and refrain from engaging in corrupt practices.

The reminder came in the midst of issues against traffic enforcers for involving fights with motorists and errant drivers.
Estrada said he understands the pressure with the traffic enforcers as they are to fix traffic flow all the time.
“I challenge you to always smile while on duty despite the heat, the dust, at kung minsan, kahit umuulan, kailangan nyong magtrapik pa rin. Alam din natin na may mga motorista at driver na mayayabang at mainit ang ulo at ang naghahanap ng basag-ulo,” Estrada said.
“But may I remind you that at the end of the day, tungkulin nyo na maging magalang, maging mahinahon sa harap ng mga ganyang sitwasyon. Still it’s your duty and responsibility to serve the public with a high degree of courtesy and maximum tolerance,” he added.
The mayor also warned traffic enforcers to refrain from engaging in corrupt practices or face harsh consequences.
Estrada said he will be “uncompromising and unforgiving in dealing with corrupt practices, no matter how big or how small.”
“Maging aral sa inyo ang nangyari sa mga tinanggal natin dahil sa panghihingi ng tong. But I will be generous, magiging mabait tayo at handang magbigay ng pabuya sa matatapat sa kanilang tungkulin,” Estrada said.
Currently, there are around 300 MTPB traffic enforcers, 100 of them are receiving P10,000 a month, the remaining 200 are receiving P6,000-P8,000 plus other perks and incentives.
The mayor added that he plans to hold values formation and traffic education every month for MTPB personnel.
He also encouraged the public to report good and rude deeds of traffic enforcers so that they can be rewarded and or reprimanded.
