Shell offers Pinoy drivers chance to “save fuel for life”
06/17/2008 Filipino motorists looking to go further by saving on their fuel consumption and their vehicle emissions have been given the chance to learn by Shell. The world’s largest fuels retailer launched the Shell Fuel Save Challenge by inviting thousands of drivers in six countries around the world, including drivers from the Philippines, to better their fuel economy for life using the new Shell Fuel Economy formula along-side driving techniques from Shell’s Fuel Save tips. To help motorists learn to change their driving habits and use less fuel, Shell will launch the Shell Fuel Save Challenge in Europe and South East Asia. The Shell Fuel Save Challenge aims to encourage motorist participation in promoting the benefits of reducing their fuel consumption and thereby also reducing their CO2 emissions on the road. The Fuel Save Challenge will be inviting 200 drivers to take part in the Challenge free fuel for one month and the chance to learn how to save fuel and go further in their vehicles. Each participant will be given P5,000 worth in free fuel via the Shell Card mechanism, with P10,000 in various gift certificates to be given to each the Top 50 performers. According to Carl Posadas, Shell Fuels Brand Manager, “We have a core role to play in meeting today’s energy challenge — helping Filipino customers save fuel and use energy in a more sustainable way. Through the Shell Fuel Save Challenge we hope to show Filipino drivers that they can save 10 percent or more fuel. With Shell fuels with Fuel Economy formula and Shell FuelSave tips, it’s easy for anyone to use less fuel and thereby reduce emissions and cut costs. Collectively, if the world were to all save 10 percent of the fuel we use, around 170 billion fewer liters could be used each year ; that’s almost twice the bottled water the world drinks in just one year.” Posadas adds that “Shell wanted to bring the Fuel Save Challenge in the Philippines as part of our commitment to bring motorists further. We at Shell believe that bringing our motorists further is not just a mantra that we apply on the road, but something that extends to life as well. By driving more efficiently, we not only help you go further on the road, but hopefully the savings that our motorists get from using the new Fuel Economy formula can be used for other things to help improve their lives too. The Fuel Save Challenge is a part of our continuing vision of helping drivers to get the most out of our fuels.” “The Shell Fuel Save Challenge takes its cue from Shell’s legacy of Fuel Economy backed by over 40 years of developing fuel economy into our fuels. This campaign is a continuation of previous initiatives such as setting the Guinness World Record for fuel economy in 2006 with John and Helen Taylor as well as the Fleet Study, and the earlier Global Fuel Economy study in 2007,” says Posadas. The Shell Fuel Save Challenge has three phases. It begins with participants driving for one month while continuing with their normal driving style, recording their mileage and fuel consumption. After the first month of driving has been completed, the second phase will happen; participants will attend a Fuel Economy training session, specially designed by Shell, to teach motorists techniques to reduce the amount of fuel they use. During the third and final phase, drivers will apply in everyday life what they learned during the training session, while using exclusively Shell fuel with Fuel Economy formula and logging their mileage and fuel consumption data each week. During this period they will also receive tips and reminders for saving fuel from Shell. Back to top
