The new Toyota Fortuner arrives

10/07/2008

Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. is ready to introduce the New Fortuner compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) this month. With a slew of new exterior and interior specifications that provide a more executive image, the Fortuner maintains its affordability with a price tag ranging from P1,379,000 to P1,694,000.

Toyota targets to maintain its leadership position in the compact SUV segment through the new Fortuner.

The Fortuner made its debut as part of Toyota’s International Innovative Multipurpose Vehicle (IMV) projects, together with the Innova and Hilux. The global success of the IMV is attributed to four core charac-teristics: Global package with worldwide availability, advanced styling and car-like comfort, solid frame with new suspension, and techno-logically-advanced, fuel-efficient VVT-I gasoline and D-4D diesel engines.

Since its introduction in May 2005, the Fortuner has sold over 22,258 units, strongly keeping its leadership position in the compact SUV segment with 27.1 percent market share. It is also consistent in making it to the country’s top five best selling vehicles with sustained average monthly sales of 450 units. “The Fortuner won the hearts of many as it made the Filipino dream of owning an SUV closer to reality. It offered an affordable alternative the other expensive executive SUVs at that time, without compromising the image of power and status,” expressed Hiroshi Ito, TMP President.

Over the past three years, Toyota has taken time to listen to its customers and found ways to improve the Fortuner. The new aggressive radiator grill design is a welcome enhancement resembling its more high-end brothers, the RAV4 and Prado, a standard theme adapted by Toyota for its SUVs. Projector lamps are adapted and turn signal lamps are moved to the outer side for enhanced performance and an elite appearance. Rear combination lamps are also rearranged with wedge-cut lenses. The bigger exterior look is supported by new 17” six spoke alloy wheels for a more balanced, comfortable ride.

The interior is clad with wood grain panels, and steering wheel functionality is increased with audio and multi-information display (MID) switches. In a situation where fuel prices are becoming a burden, even the executive class can depend on the MID’s current and average fuel consumption display to help them drive more fuel-efficiently. For a more enjoyable drive, a 2-DIN, 6-CD changer with blue tooth function is incorporated. A feature fit for anyone on the go, hands-free Bluetooth phone calls promote multi-tasking while exercising safe driving. Air condition system is improved with automatic push-type heater control panel with digital display. The set temperature, vent mode, and air inlet mode are displayed on the LCD. Furthermore, a rear air cooler unit is installed in the 2nd row ceiling for added comfort for rear passengers.

The new Fortuner is available in both 4X4 and 4X2 drive trains, all in automatic trans-mission. The 4X4 is offered with a 3.0-liter V diesel variant priced at P1,694,000. The 4X2, on the other hand has a 2.5-liter G diesel option at P1,444,000 and a 2.7-liter G gasoline option at P1,379,000. Available shades are extreme black, greyish brown metallic, super white, lithium, and dark grey mica metallic.

“The Fortuner offers accomplished, goal-driven individuals the power, confidence and freedom to conquer the world through its luxurious features, and classic, elegant design,” said Danny Isla, first vice president for marketing.

Check-out the new Fortuner in any of Toyota’s 27 outlets nationwide starting October, or visit www.toyota.com.ph for more details.
