Silence at its Finest

Inside the cabin, while travelling on the roadway, with just the electric engine running, you could even hear a whisper and it would be easy to detect a rattle, if it would ever occur. This writer experienced, on one very early morning, driving to a compound with an on-duty Security guard, who was half asleep and without the LED lights beamed on him, he would still be asleep. Now that was silence at its finest.
The Toyota Prius Hybrid 1.8 CVT, starts on an electric motor and runs on it, but if you reach a certain speed and when the electric motor battery needed charging, the petrol engine kicks in. Unlike other hybrids this writer had tested, it was the other way around. After the battery reaches a certain level of charging, the electric motor was used again and the silent mode, was set again. The smooth shifting of the transmission, was made possible with the use of the CVT (continuous variable transmission) that was bolted on the engine. For braking, the ABS (anti-lock braking system) was standard and so was the traction control, plus the battery could be charged too, using the brake system.
Inside the Toyota Prius Hybrid 1.8 CVT, the first thing this writer noticed, was the scent from the two-toned black and white genuine leather used, on the heated seats (front only), that smelled like expensive luggage, while the cabin space was abundant, with more cargo space on the rear, especially with rear seats folded. The almost wall to wall, bright glowing instrument cluster that provided information from how the battery was charging and its status, plus more, was very informative. For safety, aside from the 3-point seatbelts for all occupants, it is also supplemented by quite a number of airbags strategically located inside the cabin. The Toyota Prius Hybrid 1.8 CVT comes with a switchable (on/off) heads up display, that was adjustable depending on the height of the driver, a unique blue shift knob and a unique selector, cruise control, 12 volt and USB outlets, the entertainment system with JBL speakers, for above average listening pleasure, the climate controlled cool air-conditioning and the slim design center console with a lower deck stow compartment, were all standard.
As this writer drove off, the parking brake pedal was a bit hidden but as the days past, finding it was not a problem. Backing up has a disadvantage with the slopping rear windshield, more so when passengers are seated on the back seat, the rear visibility was blocked but with a rear camera, monitored from the tuner up front, it truly could assist the driver, when backing up.
The Toyota Prius Hybrid 1.8 CVT was so much fun to drive, the torque the engine delivered, gave the driver an adrenalin boost and most of all, it was economical to use. Even other motorists on the road could not believe, that a Toyota Prius Hybrid 1.8 CVT in power mode, was capable to give chase.
