2 Army intel officers killed in Marawi clash

Two Army intelligence operatives, one of them a major, were killed while another one was wounded during an encounter with local terrorist group in Marawi City on Thursday afternoon, the military said yesterday.

Killed were Maj. Jerico Mangalus and Cpl. Bryan Libot, both members of the Military Intelligence Group-10 of the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (Isafp).
Wounded was Cpl. Rolando Cartilla, who was rushed to Apal Pakpak Hospital in Marawi City for treatment.
Report showed that the troops, aboard a silver Isuzu Crosswind with licensed plate numbers ZST-997, were conducting intelligence operations at around 5:30 p.m. when they were engaged by the armed men, tagged as members of a local terror group.
The suspects were aboard a Toyota Corolla with licensed plate numbers ULB-391.
The firefight erupted along Barangay Lilod Madaya in Marawi City.
“Firefight lasted for almost 10 minutes that resulted in two killed in action and one wounded,” report said.
Elements of the Army’s 65th Infantry Battalion immediately conducted pursuit operations against the armed men while checkpoint operations were intensified in Marawi City.
