3 inmates killed in Jolo jailbreak

Three inmates of the Jolo Municipal Police Station were killed during a police pursuit operation after they bolted out of the jail facility early morning yesterday, along with 11 others.

Police said that one of the escapees was also recaptured during pursuit operation launched immediately after 14 detainees sprung out of their detention cell.
Senior Supt. Mario Buyuccan, Sulu Police Provincial Office chief, said the inmates sawed off a portion of the facility’s grill and jumped on the roof of the neighboring municipal hall to escape t around 1:25 a.m.
Buyuccan said the noise made by the escaping inmates roused the policemen on-duty and prevented the other 24 more inmates from escaping. The lockup cell had a total of 38 inmates.
According to Buyuccan, 14 inmates managed to move out of the facility but were tracked by responding policemen.
As a result, three of the escapees were killed while another one was rearrested.
The slain inmates were identified as Julbid Alinjani, Budda Basali and Midzfar Sabli, all jailed for violation of anti-illegal drugs laws; while the recaptured inmate was known as Gummi Maimbung, also jailed for illegal drugs.
Six of the 10 who escaped were members of the Abu Sayyaf Group, while the four others were detained for illegal drugs cases.
Pursuit operations are still ongoing to recapture the other escapees.
