Du30 to new appointees: Do not engage in corruption

President Duterte yesterday reminded newly appointed government appointees not to betray him by engaging in corruption.
The Chief Executive, in his speech at their mass oath-taking at the Palace, said he does not want to have a Judas Iscariot in his administration’s fold.
In stressing his message, Mr. Duterte noted noted that Leonardo da Vinci’s famous Last Supper had Jesus Christ and one of his apostles, Judas Iscariot.
“We all start with the noblest of intention, joining government, dreaming of a — we start good, but especially in government,” Mr. Duterte said.
“But I hope you — I will not have to ask you to pose a picture which I will draw — I will be drawing shortly before I leave the presidency,” he added.
“I hate to see you being a Jesus Christ, only to discover in the end that you are the Judas that I have been also looking for.”
Mr. Duterte noted that betrayal for him means that these officials would go into corruption.
The Chief Executive told them that he will be intolerant of corruption, noting that he has fired several officials in Malacañang over mere whiffs of corruption.
“I am bent on stopping corruption in government. I committed my honor, life and the presidency itself,” he said.
“I have fired a lot here in Malacañang... What I’m telling you is do not be corrupt, not under my watch,” he added.
Mr. Duterte admonished new government officials: “Avoid even a slight whisper of money.”
Among the new presidential appointments present yesterday were newly designated Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office board members whistle-blower Sandra Cam and taxi operator Bong Suntay; former presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella as new Undersecretary for the Department of Foreign Affairs, and; acting Department of Agrarian Reform Secretary John Castriciones.
