Gov’t massive infra program faces lack of manpower

The Duterte administration’s “Build, Build, Build” program has caused a shortage of construction workers.

Presidential spokesman Harry Roque, at a press briefing yesterday, said the administration wants to generate more jobs to fill in for the government’s ambitious infrastructure program.
“Apparently the Build, Build, Build program has already resulted in some kind of a shortage for construction workers here in the Philippines,” Roque told reporters.
The Palace official said the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) is giving free training for construction workers.
Rebel returnees are among those tapped to participate in fulfilling the Duterte administration’s development projects.
“Graduates of the skills training especially the indigenous peoples, the poor, the rebel returnees will be recruited to play a vital role in the development of infrastructure projects such as the construction of roads, bridges and establishments,” Roque said.
In a speech on Wednesday night in Pampanga, President Duterte himself said he is willing to absorb former members of the communist New People’s Army to livelihood programs.
