Leila: Duterte dictatorship looms

The planned Charter change (Cha-cha) and shift to federal form of government are just prelude to the authoritarian rule of the Duterte administration, Sen. Leila de Lima yesterday said.

The senator noted the similarities in the circumstances during the Marcos regime that eventually put in place a legitimized dictatorship.
“To assure this, Duterte and his lackeys are preparing to replace our democratic system with an authoritarian one,” De Lima said.
“We are living in perilous times. Philippine society has never been so polarized. Our democracy is dying,” she warned.
“Apparently this is the same path now being taken by Duterte and his Congress as they lay the groundwork for Charter change. Duterte seems bent on keeping himself and his allies in power indefinitely, beyond the present constitutional limits,” she said.
The senator noted that several anti-democratic actions comprise part of the groundwork for what she claimed as authoritarian project such as the impeachment proceedings against Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno and planned similar proceedings against Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales.
“The weakening of the independent institutions of our system of checks and balance always precedes the coming of a dictatorship. Mindanao is being experimented upon with the extension of martial law despite the defeat of the ISIS-Maute forces in Marawi,” she said.
De Lima surmised on such incident in Mindaao being used as a precedent for a nationwide martial law despite the absence of invasion or rebellion.
The senator also pointed out that revolutionary government continues to be being floated as an option and an open invitation remains for the military to support Duterte as the absolute power.
“Obviously, this is just another sophomoric forgery of Marcos’ ‘revolution from the center.’ After all, Duterte has never been known for originality, except in the methods of murder and manipulation,” she said.
“The Filipino consciousness has never been exposed to such an assault of lies and deception until Duterte’s propaganda machine. Impunity prevails not only in the mass murder of poor citizens but in other government actions as well,” De Lima said,
She cited the re-appointment of discredited allies such as former Bureau of Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon who was linked to shabu smuggling and shady characters such as the “indefatigable” Sandra Cam.
“All these indicate the regime’s bravura that it will never be held accountable because it intends to be in power forever,” De Lima said.
Meanwhile, de Lima admitted that she’s not expecting to be released from detention for as long as Duterte is the country’s president.
“I am now resigned to the fact that for as long as this vindictive President remains in power, freedom from this most unjust detention is an impossibility,” she said.
“(But) I hope and pray that I am wrong, but we must do more than hope and pray. We must act. It is only then that we can make a ‘Happy New Year’ a reality and not merely a desperate wish,” she said.
Even if she wants to, de Lima said she cannot be optimistic about the year ahead as it’s “a sad year for the forces of evil that still rule over our land.”

Look who's talking. During B.S. Aquino's presidency, these things being attributed by Delima to PRRD were acts and behavior actually done by Aquino with Delima's connivance, like the Corona impeachment, MRT corruption, Luneta bus hostage inaction, Yolanda funds pilferage, defiance of Supreme Court TRO re PGMA, etc..

This self confessed immoral woman is out of her mind again when she said that there is an absence of invasion or rebellion in Mindanao! How could she characterize then what happened in Marawi City? A city fiesta?

What the Filipinos need now is Discipline which was lacking for more than 30 years since the time of cory and the yellow administrations. Yellow kind of democracy are for the yellow oligarch who wants to control the people thru their brain washing of our school children. And that's why we must never give the LP or yellow to come back to power. Should they try to do their EDSA 1 and 2 again we must pick our guns and other weapons and take them out permanently.

This nymphomaniac. "shabu Queen," the destroyer of Filipino youth through her patronage of shabu, is moralizing. Can clean water come out of the sewer? She will sit at the right hand of Lucifer.
