Blatter’s visit to boost football

07/16/2008

The Philippine Football Federation will have a busy last quarter in 2008, ushered in by the return visit of International Football Federation president Sepp Blatter, who will inaugurate the PFF’s new P18.5 million office building on Aug 2.

Appearing in yesterday’s PSA forum, PFF president Jose Mari Martinez said Blatter and Asian Football Confederation president Mohamed Bin Hammam are coming over on Aug. 1 to open the country’s “Football House” before heading to the Beijing Olympic Games.

“We are fortunate to have Mr. Blatter and Mr. Hammam to grace the inauguration of the country’s ‘Football House’ that was funded through FIFA’s Goal Project,” Martinez said in the session sponsored by Accel, Brickroad gym and Aspen Spa and Med Central Diagnostic Clinics. “This will be a great day for Philippine football.”

He explained that the PFF’s new headquarters was funded through FIFA’s Goal Project II, which earmarked $400,000 (roughly P18.5 million) for its construction.

Besides FIFA, the PFF chief said AFC, the Asian football body, is also keen on improving the country’s soccer conditions and will field a delegation on Sept. 20 for the AFC’s Vision Asia project.

A brainchild of Hammam, the Vision Asia program is geared towards closing the gap of Asian football with the rest of the world.
