Malaysia next Best stop after Thailand
07/16/2008 After Thailand, plans are also afoot to bring the Basketball Efficiency Scientific Training (Best) Center to Malaysia and other parts of the Southeast Asian region. Best Center founder and chairman Nick Jorge bared that cage officials in Kuala Lumpur also expressed interest to tap the services of the country’s long-time basketball program that teaches the scientific fundamentals of playing the game. “Marami ng nag-express ng interest for us to put up basketball clinics in their country, the latest nga was Malaysia through my friend there,” said Jorge, the former amateur and professional coach, in the weekly PSA Forum at the Shakey’s UN Avenue branch sponsored by Shakey’s, Accel, Brickroad gym and Aspen spa and MedCenter Medical Clinic and Diagnostic Center. Best Center coach Edwin Barber was the first to handle the Bangkok clinic, with Robert Sanayon likely to run the second one as Barber is currently busy helping the University of the Philippines in its hosting chores in the 71st UAAP season. Jorge formed the Best Program 30 years ago after a month-long training in Rome, Italy, where he was joined by 10 coaches from Asia under the auspices of the Olympic Solidarity Program. He was inspired to bring the concept of basketball clinics here since budding local players at the time had no formal training in the sport. Back to top
