UST blocking DLSU bid for No. 2
07/17/2008 De La Salle University sets out today, looking for a share of second place in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City. The Archers go up against University of Santo Tomas in the second match at 4 p.m. in a game between two teams which have also forged storied rivalry in the mid 1990s. Through the years, the Archers have always been one of the contenders in the premier collegiate league. While they were beaten by long-time rival Ateneo in their first encounter this 71st season, 79-73, the Archers nevertheless managed to rebound with a 73-62 thumping of Far Eastern University (FEU) last July 12. The Archers will actually gun for their second straight win which would propel them to a tie for second place with University of the East, which holds a 2-1 win-loss slate. Ateneo is leading the eight-team field with immaculate 3-0, a string of wins capped by a 64-58 triumph over the Red Warriors last Sunday. FEU will then seek to rebound from its stinging loss at the hands of the Archers as it takes on host school in the first tussle at 2 p.m. Arman Carandang  Back to top
