Barrios graces SBP-Passerelle start at San Beda

Philippine Basketball AssociationCommissioner Reunald “Sonny” Barrios is the guest of honor and main speaker when the Small Basketeers Philippines-Passerelle basketball tournament starts today at the San Beda College in Alabang.

Thirty-three teams are entered in the tournament organized by the Basketball Efficiency and Scientific Training (Best) Center and sponsored by long-time backer Milo.

Xavier School will defend its Passerelle title against strong teams Ateneo, La Salle Greenhills and La Salle Zobel.

SBP champion Ateneo, meanwhile, is expected to have its hands full against the likes of La Salle Greenhills, Xavier and San Beda.

Complete teams competing in the Passerelle division are: Antipolo Lady of Lourdes School, De La Salle Zobel, Don Bosco Technical College-Mandaluyong, Don Bosco Technical School-Makati, Golden Sunbeams Christian School, Lourdes School-Quezon City, Marist, Notre Dame of Greater Manila, San Beda A and B, San Benildo Integrated School, San Sebastian College, School of St. Anthony, University of Santo Tomas, and Xavier School A and B.

For the Small Basketeers: Ateneo, De La Salle Zobel, Don Bosco Technical College-Mandaluyong, Don Bosco Technical Institute-Makati, Kid’s World Chirstian Academy, La Salle Greenhills A and B, Lourdes School of Mandaluyong, Lourdes School of Quezon City, Marist, Notre Dame of Greater Manila, San Beda, San Benildo Integrated School, St. Mary’s College, Sta. Clara International Academy, and Xavier.

The SBP and the Passerelle competitions were developed by Best Center founder and chairman Nic Jorge in 1986 to expose Best Center students to competitions after they have gone through various clinics and rigorous training.

Best Center is the pioneer in basketball clinics in the Philippines and was awarded with the prestigious Hall of Fame trophy by the Philippine Sportswriters Association for being the longest-running youth development program by a private organization.
