7 p.m. — TNT vs San Miguel Beer
After winning 11 straight games and posting the Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup’s best elimination round record, reigning back-to-back champion San Miguel Beer is now in a precarious spot.
TNT Ka Tropa outplayed the Beermen, 101-94, in Game 5 of their best-of-seven semifinals series Thursday night, and the MVP fuanchise is now a win away from the championship round.
But the Beermen-- the winningest squad in league history-- would rather project themselves unperturbed.
“We told everyone after Game 5 loss that we’ve been in this situation before,” guard Chris Ross said. “We know how to deal with this, so everyone should remain positive.”
The Beermen are the only franchise ever to come back from an 0-3 deficit, right in this same tournament last season against Alaska.
Facing a 3-2 deficit, the Beermen need to win the remaining two games to keep their chances of retaining the title alive, the first should be in tonight’s Game 6 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Game time is 7 pm.
In Game5, the Ka Tropa limited June Mar Fajardo to only 13 points using a swarming defense on the three-time Most Valuable Player, while their old reliables Jayson Castro, Ranidel de Ocampo and former MVP Kelly Williams, all tallied 18 markers.
