HD Spikers vow to make history

Significant changes are bringing out the best in the Cignal HD Spikers.
Springing out of its cocoon, the Cignal HD Spikers have now metamorphosed into one solid, ferocious team ready to spike its way to the top of the Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga (PSL) Grand Prix.
Expect new head coach Edgar Barroga and assistant Rico de Guzman to infuse fresh inspiration and ideas to the team that is poised to make history in the prestigious tournament that runs from February 17 – May 11, 2018.
Barroga is not new to the game as he was a member of the national team from 1987-1990, and the head coach of National University and Rizal Technological University.
Apart from a dynamic coaching team, the roster of players had also undergone important improvements. Making their appearances once again on the team are Rachel Anne Daquis as team captain, Jheck Dionela, Mumay Vivas, May Macatuno, Ivy Carlos, and recently activated Cindy Amutan.
Jovelyn Gonzaga and Janine Marciano are recovering from their respective injuries from last season while Mylene Paat is currently playing for Adamson in the UAAP and is expected to suit up with the Spikers in the All-Filipino conference.
Newcomers to Team Awesome are Acy Masangkay, former Generika – Ayala setter, Shirley Salamagos, a proud Lady Chief and ex middle blocker of Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors, the returning Janine Navarro, AU alumna Rialen Sante, who previously played for the Lady Realtors and NCAA season 90 Finals MVP Menchie Tubiera.
Reinforcing the team are 27-year old Jeané Horton from Fresno, USA and 26-year old Sonja Milanovic from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Horton towers at 5 feet 11 inches and her credentials include stints with the All C-USA Team, AVCA All-Midwest Region Team, Volleyball Club (Germany), 14x MVP Gold Winner and Bundesliga Champion.
Milanovic, a hard-hitting Spiker from Bosnia stands at 6 feet 2 inches tall, has played in Mondovi, Italy, Serbia and Little Rock, Arkansas USA. She was a member of ŽOK Jedinstvo Brcko, which won 4-peat in Championnat de Bosnie-Herzégovine de volley-ball féminin (Bosnia and Herzegovina Women's Volleyball Championship) from 2009-2012 and won 3 straight championships in Coupe de Bosnie-Herzégovine de volley-ball féminin ( Bosnia and Herzegovina Women's Volleyball Cup) from 2009-2011.
Team Awesome boasts a powerful fusion of youth, energy, skill, talent and experience. It is definitely a team that adds up to far more than the sum of its parts.
The team knows that the going will not be easy but their enthusiasm and go-getter attitude will help them embrace and hurdle the challenges of the tough tournament.
With its cache of talent, passion and purpose, there’s no doubt that the Cignal HD Spikers will have their eye on the prize.
Catch the PSL Grand Prix action LIVE on Hyper channel 91 and on high definition channel 261 on Cignal and ESPN 5.
