Philippine cagers with Malaysians, Australians in Fiba U-16 grouping

The Philippines found itself bunched with neighbor Malaysia and debuting Australia in Group B of the 2018 FIBA Under-16 Asia Championship set from April 2-8 in Foshan, China.
The Philippine youth team qualified to the event after sweeping the Southeast Asian Basketball Association (SEABA) U-16 championship last year in Manila.
Their Finals foe, Malaysia also made the cut while Australia will be joining the fray for the first time following the foundation of new FIBA Asia-Oceania Zone.
Composing Group A are host nation China, Hongkong and also Oceania country New Zealand.
Asian powerhouse Iran along with Macau and Chinese Taipei were bracketed in Group C, while reigning champion South Korea banners Group D alongside Lebanon, India and Japan.
The top four teams in FIBA Asia U-16 championship will qualifiy for the 2018 FIBA U-17 Basketball World Cup in Argentina this coming June.
Expected to headline Batang Gilas team is top high school cager Kai Sotto, who was also in the forefront of the team's SEABA title run last year.
The final roster of Batang Gilas is yet to be announced by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP).
